Canadian red cedar doesn't generally need to be treated. However, there are benefits to doing so! Here are the facts:

seals itself against weathering
never needs to be oiled or painted - this saves time and money.
but: it is more sensitive to dirt

Painting must be repeated
Order your chairs from us finely sanded and pre-assembled. After complete assembly, carefully apply three coats of paint the first time. Please sand briefly after the first coat. This will bring out the wood grain's brilliance and texture.
